This verse in scripture demonstrates that even with the involvement of architects who are very knowledgeable in their field, these buildings can collapse if they are built without the guidance of the chief architect. We should be guided by this pattern in building our houses as a solid foundation is vital in providing protection and stability.

Building a house takes wisdom and ingenuity. The wise King Solomon seeks to guide individuals in cautioning them that in constructing a house, it is important to avoid the use of inferior material or cheap labour or fixtures that can compromise the quality of the building. It also requires wisdom to maintain a house as a lack of good care and maintenance can cause degradation or disrepair.

This figurative expression is likened unto the wisdom and strength gained when one stands firmly in obedience to the word of God. This expression is used appropriately as a house that is built with substandard materials can easily be destroyed by the natural elements such as the storms, wind and rain. The house that is built with materials of strength and durability will be able to stand firmly amidst the currents of life.

Here Haggai predicted the victory of the Roman empire and the fulfillment of their greatest desire which was to see the Messiah. The focus on this house was not just on its magnificent structure and beautiful furnishings, but that it will be filled with the glory of God. This was not just the symbolic presence of God, but Christ Himself will dwell among His people.

All the successes that we have gained or whatever we have acquired comes as a result of the goodness of God towards us. Many can praise God for this gift of owning a new house as it signals the end of their tenancy or moving away from parents and other family members.

God is our source of strength and all the resources that we utilize in building our houses are gained through the consistency of His daily provisions which he continues to outpour on us. Many can even testify of how God led them in this house project so that they can now be grateful for its successful completion.

This scripture admonishes us to dedicate our house to God and pray that His continuous presence will abide in our homes forever. It is also good to invite members of the clergy, friends and families to share in this momentous and joyful experience as adoration and praise are expressed to the Almighty God.

It is also important to dedicate the lives of the occupants of the household as well. The entertainment and conversations should also meet the approval of holy angels as they hover over the structure providing sweet peace so that it can reflect the Heavenly home.

God wants to guard your house so that it will be impenetrable to the enemy. May each door you open reminds you that Jesus Christ is the door who offers salvation and a safe pasture (John 10:9). May each window you gaze through encourage you to trust God as He continues to pour out His daily blessings (Malachi 3:10). As you open your gate to invite others to your home, may you look forward to the day when you will enter by the gates of the city (Rev 22:11) where you will reign and live forever with Jesus in His heavenly home.

Jesus told the parable of the wise and foolish builders at the conclusion of the Sermon on the Mount. He made sure his audience understood the meaning by explaining it. After all of the teachings in the sermon it was important that the people understood that simply listening to his words was not enough.

In the area of Palestine there were low valleys and gullies that had been exposed by water from rain and storms. During heavy rainfall these became swollen rivers that washed away everything in their paths. A foolish builder would build his house without thinking about what kind of foundation there was. He might have liked the way the building site looked. Perhaps he decided to ignore the warnings of people who had experienced the past floods.

The wise builder, on the other hand, carefully plans his house. He investigates the building site to make sure that it will sustain his building. He judges the soil and elevation to make sure that there are no flood hazards. He will listen to warnings of those who know the area. He builds with confidence and knowing his building will last.

The first man was very wise. He thought carefully about the kind of house he wanted to build. He wanted a house that was strong. If a strong wind or heavy rains came he did not want his house to break up or wash away. This wise man knew that the most important part of a house is the foundation. The foundation is the first thing that is built. It is the bottom of the house. The foundation has to be sturdy and strong to make the house sturdy and strong.

The wise looked everywhere and then he found the perfect place. He found a huge flat rock. The rock could be the foundation for the house. The wise man dug around and chipped the rock until it was the perfect size for his house. Then he built his house on the rock.

After he was finished he lived in the house. Many times storms came to his house. The winds blew and the rains came but the wise man sat comfortably in his house. He did not worry about the storms because he had built his house on a rock.

The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down. Whoever walks in uprightness fears the Lord, but he who is devious in his ways despises him. By the mouth of a fool comes a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise will preserve them. Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, but abundant crops come by the strength of the ox. A faithful witness does not lie, but a false witness breathes out lies. ...

He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

Thus says the Lord: Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest? All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.

They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time.

Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh's daughter and brought her into the city of David until he had finished building his own house and the house of the Lord and the wall around Jerusalem.

According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Therefore because you trample on the poor and you exact taxes of grain from him, you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine.

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
